Our Mission

Coffee, Books, & Chaos is a volunteer-run non-profit literary initiative dedicated to amplifying BIPOC and underrepresented voices in publishing. We believe that literature should reflect the full richness of human experience—and that too often, marginalized writers are excluded from the conversation. Our work is simple: we spotlight authors who have been historically overlooked, challenge inequities in the publishing industry, and build a global community of readers committed to change.

Our Story

Coffee, Books, & Chaos was born from a simple truth: BIPOC voices have been silenced in publishing for too long.

For generations, the literary world has decided which stories matter. And for generations, those stories have overwhelmingly been white. Black authors, Indigenous writers, people of color—they’ve been pushed to the margins, told their experiences are “niche,” their perspectives “too specific,” their voices “not universal enough.” The message has always been clear: wait your turn.

But some voices have been waiting for centuries.

Began in February 2025 as a refusal to wait any longer. Founded by a University of Toronto student who knew what it felt like to grow up rarely seeing herself in books, this initiative started small—just one person, one laptop, one belief that change doesn’t require permission.

Coffee, Books, & Chaos exists because the publishing industry still doesn’t know what to do with writers of color. It exists because BIPOC readers deserve to see themselves reflected on every page, not just during awareness months or diversity initiatives. It exists because stories by marginalized writers aren’t a trend—they’re essential.

This initiative is volunteer-run, independently funded, and fiercely committed to its mission. No advertising. No corporate influence. Just a community of readers and writers who believe that representation isn’t optional.

Every author featured, every review published, every reader reached—it’s all in service of one goal: making sure BIPOC voices are heard, celebrated, and never silenced again.

This is for every BIPOC writer who’s been told to wait.

This is for every BIPOC reader who’s wondered if they belong in books.

Our Values

  • Equity: We actively seek out and amplify voices that have been marginalized by mainstream publishing.
  • Independence: We accept no advertising or corporate funding. Our only allegiance is to our community and our mission.
  • Community: We are not just a blog—we are a gathering place for readers who believe that representation matters.
